A Breath of Fresh Air

Posted in File Cabinet by Andrew de Vera on 24 January, 2010

Last night was Pin@yPalooza presented by ManilaStar Events which was benefitting 3Doves Foundation. Tons of amazing artists performed such as our local stars the Roxas Brothers to Manny Garcia and even AJ Rafael. Yes, AJ Rafael! But anyways… sometimes when you go to these kinds of events one would expect to hear tons of awesome covers and songs. This time around I wanted to hear something new, original compositions for once.

This gal Melissa Polinar brought something new, genuine, unique and meaningful to the table. Hailing from the dirty south, she brought a breath of fresh air to Chicago. I’ve listened to a number of her tracks on YouTube but actually listening to her live was something special.

The song that touched me the most was “Always Need You”–this song held so much “Love” and a different kind of love. Digging deeper, this song (in my own interpretation) talks about experiencing a Love from God that is so much appreciated. Declaring every little ounce of ones self and without being afraid to express that Love for Him. To everyone that reads this, I pray for your journey in finding the true meaning of “Love”, may we experience it on God’s time. For me, this was definitely “God’s time”.

Big ups to all the awesome performances last night; AJ Rafael opened up with Heart of Worship which I’m sure was a curve ball for most of the crowd, haha! But especially to Melissa Polinar; PG for her and for God’s messages heard in the most unexpected places…

Check Melissa Polinar out over here & here. Thanks!

MP3 Download

DJ Earworm does it again with a new mash up for 2009. United State of Pop 209 (Blame It On Pop). Top 25 of 2009, all mashed up into one track. Cleverly complied and sounds great. I don’t care if it sounds corny, this guy is talented for sure. Props to DJ Earworm for some new ear candy! Enjoy!

Bringing It Back

So lately it’s been all 90’s hits for me. I have no idea why I’m listening to these nostalgic tracks but for some odd reason I still remember all the lyrics… haha! Like right now it’s BSB. Freakin’ the CD is amazing, I feel like crying, haha! Anyways it’s not even the 90’s, I take it back. It’s anything pre 2000. For some reason my buddy Gaab got me into Meat Loaf again. That guy for some reason has an epic/legendary aura about him, haha. To add to all this TSO is making an appearance too. Oddly.

So I’m back in Cleveland and it’s been so chill, I love it. I love seeing my family–especially my grandpa and the little one. It’s so easy/slow pace here compared to Chicago. Why is that? I wish I could come back here more often, but I know God provides when the time is right. So much food here, so much! Filipino food galore. We had some BA palabok the first night then lechon paksiw the next! New work out regiment when I get back, haha!

Family is awesome, don’t take any for granted people. My family is all over the place and it may be hard at times but family is family. Currently my mommy is in the Philippines, sisters in California, and the rest in Ohio. Got lots of vacation spots but for all of us being together at one moment… that’ll be a toughie. Nonetheless I thank God for all the times spent with family this past 2009. And not just my immediate family but family of friends and families that have taken me in as their own. 2009, thanks for everything. Cheers!
